Moulds

The mould used determines the shape of the preform. We make preform moulds both from fibreglass reinforced polyester and perforated steel sheet.

Our clients can manufacture both types of moulds. A product serves as a plug for the preform mould. Sheet metal is hammered into the shape of the product, if necessary cut and or welded.

When a polyester mould is more effective the product-plug is used to laminate the polyester glass fibre. The drawback to this production method is that the preform mould needs to be drilled with holes to let air through.

For easy release the moulds are coated with low bake PTFE.

The manufacturing cost of the mould depends on the complexity of the shape of the product. Small recurring production series are possible as long as the total production can cover the cost of the mould. For simple shapes with flat surfaces perforated plate moulds are preferred.

Fibreglass reinforced composite moulds are used for complex geometries. High temperature resistance is necessary so the moulds are made with high temperature resistant resins and are treated with a special coating for easy release.
